Jesus replied, “What does the law of Moses say? How do you read it?
The man answered, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” “Right!” Jesus told him. "Do this and you will live!” Luke 10:26-28(NLT)
Jesus was speaking when a religious teacher stood and asked Him, “What should I do to inherit eternal life?” (Matthew 18:18, 19).Jesus led him to the answer: you must first love the Lord your God with all your heart.
Half-hearted love for the Lord is not enough. You have been saved from the world, from yourself, and from the enemy; therefore, show some passion for your Savior! Ask the Holy Spirit to increase your heart’s desire to spend time with Him in order to grow your affection for Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes to His amazing Truth and Grace, which will increase your appetite for more of Him. Do you love Him with all your heart? You can be sure you do if you have a heart that is hungry for more and more of Him and filled with gratitude. He is blessing you every day. Do the eyes of your heart see His grace? Do you have a thankful heart?
Do you love Him with all your soul? Your soul is the essence of you—the part of you that lives on into eternity. It is the life-force within you. You are a living soul. Do you live for Jesus? Do you eat, sleep, work, play, and rest in Jesus? Do you breathe His breath of life?
Do you love with all your strength? To the best of your abilities, do you love Him? With all the power you can muster, do you seek Him? Give Him your all; you will receive immeasurably more than you can even imagine (Ephesians 3:20).
And, of course, as a reflection of Him, you cannot help but love others. Jesus is Love (John 10:30; 1 John 4:8).When you plant His seeds of truth in your mind and ask Him how to apply them to your life, He will show you opportunities for acts of love toward others.
Love is not a gushy emotion; it is making choices to be kind, considerate, patient, forgiving of offenses, giving, and caring toward others.
Do you want to really live? Will you love the Lord your God with everything you have and love others as yourself?
