The Declaration of Independence is the founding document of a radical experiment rooted in ideas from the Divine regarding rights that Abba Father deems to all made in the image of God: human beings. These rights are from “Laws of Nature and Nature’s God.” Every 4th of July, Americans celebrate the freedoms and liberties these rights ensure.
The heart of the principles of the Declaration is included in this paragraph from our founding document:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.--Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government.”
“These Truths” came from “The Truth” and sought to proclaim that America would be a country that believes every human has certain rights such as free will to live wherever you want and own whatever property you can afford to buy. Government has no right to interfere with basic human rights; such as, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Have you noticed we value human life more than any other government in the world? Yes, we have blood on our hands with the millions of abortions performed since Roe v. Wade but we don’t kill people because we disagree with them without consequences. The belief that all men are created equal does not mean equality of social and economic status nor does it mean equal in beauty, intelligence, hard work, God-given skills and gifts, nor character. Equality means that we all have an equal right to pursue our dreams, seek any job we want, attend the school of our choice, marry whomever we desire, worship however we feel called, but it by no means applies to the communistic definition of guaranteeing equality of results (that sounds great in theory, but has never worked in practice!)
The Pursuit of Happiness we know from the founders’ writings didn’t mean self-indulgences, it meant the happiness that ensues when we strive to live out our God-given gifts and thus fulfilling our God-given destiny.
“Almost fifty years later, Jefferson described the Declaration as “an expression of the American mind…. All its authority rests … on the harmonizing sentiments of the day….” The Declaration weaves together philosophy, theology, and political history, both the American mind and American experience. A secular document, the Declaration nonetheless needs religion for its authority. Thus, God is mentioned or referred to four times, in three capacities: legislator (Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God), Creator (or executive), Supreme Judge of the world, and as guardian (divine Providence).” The Heritage Foundation
America is so incredibly wonderful! We are the only nation built on truths from our Creator guaranteeing certain unalienable rights (rights that government can not take away from us).
Yes, these rights are under attack and just this week praise God our Supreme Court upheld our freedom of religion rights with the Hobby Lobby case. Now is the time for you and me to pray for our great America! I want to encourage you; sometimes I feel like giving up with my prayers. Is my one little prayer even going to matter? YES! Abba hears every prayer and He gives us some amazing examples of how one person’s prayer affected an entire nation.
Moses begged God not to kill those who made a golden calf and bowed down to it after the Lord had magnificently parted the Red Sea while guiding the people to freedom. The Lord rescinded his command because of one man’s prayer.
Who in the world is Phinehas? Psalm 106:30The Message (MSG) Then they linked up with Baal Peor, attending funeral banquets and eating idol food. That made God so angry that a plague spread through their ranks; Phinehas stood up and pled their case and the plague was stopped. This was counted to his credit; his descendants will never forget it.

Proverbs 28:2 (NLT) When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.
Do you pray for your country? You may feel your prayers are like a needle in a haystack to God—so small and insignificant. This is a lie from the enemy.
Do you know the story of Elijah from 1 Kings 19? He was a man of God who felt overwhelmed with the moral rot of his nation. When the Lord asked him why he was hiding in a cave; Elijah responded by saying, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too” (1 Kings 19:10; NLT). The Lord responded by assuring Elijah he was not the only one who still worshiped Him. In fact, there were still 7,000 others who were loyal to God.
You are not alone in your prayers for your country. Will you pray for your country to turn from immorality and back to God and His Love and Truth? Will you pray for our leaders to seek His Wisdom? Abba God hears every prayer and every prayer matters to Him. America is worth praying for; God bless America!
