I hope you were as encouraged as I was from the previous blog to see how our spiritual patriarch Abraham struggled with his faith and how incredibly patient Abba Father was with him. The Lord never gave up on Abraham even when he lied, ran from God, tried to control his life circumstances and didn’t trust Abba. In fact isn’t it reassuring and comforting to know that Abraham’s mistakes did not thwart God’s good plan for Abraham and his family and for the nation of Israel which eventually gave the world our Savior?
I love how Abraham grew to place his real hope in Abba and His promises even if it was taking forever and day to see the promise fulfilled and even when it seemed an impossible promise to fulfill. Can you relate? Have you been praying years for your husband to give his life to the Lord? Have you been praying years for your kids to fully surrender and live for Jesus? Are you battling a serous health issue? Whatever your difficulty might be, you have HOPE if you are a child of God. He says simply to seek Him and you will find Him and you will find answers. I believe God’s promise that He has a plan for each one of us. The difficulty is that His plan does not come with long term details. He usually just gives us the next step and the next step and the next step, growing our trust in Him daily. Our job each day is to seek Him for the day and to trust He will get us to His final destination already planned for us. We provide the effort and He provides the results.
Genesis 15:1 Abba told Abraham “Do not be afraid for I will protect you and your reward will be great.” This is our job too. Abba loves us to pieces and we dishonor Him when we are afraid. It is as though we are telling Him, He can’t handle our difficulty. He wants us to thank Him for protecting us and if we do this we are demonstrating our trust in Him and our reward will be so great we can’t even imagine what He has in store for us. This life is a test, it is nothing but a test and we are here but 5 minutes compared to what awaits us for all of eternity!
Abraham did trust the Lord and proceeded to present all the sacrifices the Lord required of him and YET Genesis 15:11 (NKJV) tells some vultures swooped down to eat the carcasses but Abram chased them away.
What are we to do? First, expect it, if it happened to our spiritual father Abraham it will happen to us. Secondly, stand firm just as Abraham stood firm. 1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (NIV) But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Finally, fight back by resisting the enemy just as Abraham resisted the swooping vultures. James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Abraham chased the vultures away and so can we. Will you say, “Devil march!” where the enemy is trying to discourage your walk and shake your trust in Abba? Our Savior does not want us to fear, He will protect us and He will reward us if we keep moving forward honoring Him.
God bless your walk today!
