It is fascinating to read about the apostles’ faith in Luke 17:5. They went to the Lord Jesus and begged Him to increase their faith. They knew they could not increase their faith; this was so encouraging to me! If the men and women who walked with Jesus, touched Him, heard Him speak, and looked into His eyes could not themselves grow their faith then how in the world can you and I? The apostles tell us to go to Jesus. My faith does not grow by saying a revved up prayer or convincing myself I have great faith. My faith grows when I go before the Great Throne and ask for help, wait patiently for His help and then remember to thank Him for working everything out for good.
The author of Hebrews tells us in chapter 12 to fix our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. Do you know what real faith looks like; it is FOCUS. When we focus on Jesus and His promises we change, we transform, and our perspective about life’s issues change because we are allowing God’s Holy Spirit within us to perfect us which means to refine us and grow us.
Romans 4:18-25 (ERV) There was no hope that Abraham would have children, but Abraham believed God and continued to hope. And that is why he became the father of many nations. As God told him, “You will have many descendants.” Abraham was almost a hundred years old, so he was past the age for having children. Also, Sarah could not have children. Abraham was well aware of this, but his faith in God never became weak. He never doubted that God would do what he promised. He never stopped believing. In fact, he grew stronger in his faith and just praised God. Abraham felt sure that God was able to do what he promised. So that’s why “he was accepted as one who is right with God.” These words (“he was accepted”) were written not only for Abraham. They were also written for us. God will also accept us because we believe. We believe in the one who raised Jesus our Lord from death. Jesus was handed over to die for our sins, and he was raised from death to make us right with God.
I love this encouraging passage about Abraham. He just kept saying to Himself I believe the promise given to me, even though my circumstances are screaming impossible! He kept saying to himself that his trust was in his God, and he kept praising God. Wow, no wonder he is mentioned in our spiritual ancestors’ “hall of faith” in Hebrews 11. He believed Abba no matter how crazy his life seemed and no matter how long it took Abba to answer his prayer.
Do you have a list of His promises to focus on daily? I always have a stack of index cards going with promises to help my weary, stressed, or fearful mind focus on Jesus.
My most recent stack includes these promises:
I am God’s child…1 John 3:1 (ERV) The Father has loved us so much! This shows how much he loved us: We are called children of God. And we really are his children. But the people in the world don’t understand that we are God’s children, because they have not known him.
He will bless me with His peace in any situation… Isaiah 26:3 (NLT) You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
We focus by asking if we can commit to Him, what we are asking of Him. Psalm 37:5 (NLT) Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.
I will stumble, but His promise to me is I will not fall. Psalm 37:23-24 (NLT) The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.
Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.
An awesome promise that Abba hears us... Daniel 10:12 (NLT) Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel(put your name here). Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer.
One of my favorite life verses…. Isaiah 41:10 (ERV) Don’t worry—I am with you.
Don’t be afraid—I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. I will support you with my right hand that brings victory.
Let’s commit to growing our faith by fixing our eyes on Jesus instead of our circumstances and by focusing on His promises to us. Focus is the fertile soul soil in which faith grows!
He promises to be faithful to us if we will focus on Him. From Nourishments….
He is Faithful Abba God
Psalm 138:8 (NLT)
The Lord will work out his plans for my life—for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever. Don’t abandon me, for you made me.
Isaiah 30:15, 18 (NLT)
This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it . . . So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God.
G o to the Lord with your questions regarding your future and any decisions you need to make. Visualize yourself placing all your questions at the foot of His throne. Visualize yourself committing your life to His will and His ways. Sit with Him and thank Him for His amazing Grace in your life and His unending Mercies.
Abba God loves you so much; He knit you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm, 139:13). He created you with His divine imprint. You are made in His image (Genesis 1:27). You are the twinkle in His eye. Allow His Love to soothe your inner being like a calming balm.
Do you think Abba will not direct you if you seek His will? Be patient and wait for His clear nudging. When the time is right, He will guide you and you will know it is time to move forward. Since the moments in which you were being knit together, He has known the plans He has for you. His faithful love only waits for you to ask.
He has never and will never abandon the work of His hands— You! But have you abandoned Him in any area of your life?
