What is the greatest example of love mankind has ever witnessed? Paul reminds us, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:6-8).
This salvation has made it possible to live basking in Abba Father’s love. Remember, Paul began his career in leadership as an enemy of Christ. He even persecuted Christians. He lived by the letter of the law rather than the Spirit of the law which demonstrates an understanding of God’s love.
Paul, even though he certainly did awful things in the Name of God, chose to accept Abba’s forgiveness and grace and made one of the greatest declarations of God’s love ever penned by man: “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things? Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? . . . No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:31-32, 35-39)
However, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy,” Jesus said. “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
What does the enemy use to steal, kill or destroy love?
Jonah 2:8 (NIV) “Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them.
An idol is anything, anyone or any place we seek for relief, comfort, happiness, guidance or acceptance other than our Creator and Lover of our soul. Jonah tells us if choose to cling to worthless, short term satisfactions we turn away from God’s love, His mercies and His grace. Oh no! Why do we do that? We do that because we choose to believe the lie from the enemy of God that something else will make us feel good, make us feel loved or satisfy us other than the One Who gives us a real, satisfying and rich life!
Revelation 7:17 (NIV) For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
What is holding you back from allowing the Good Shepherd to lead you to springs of living water? Have you allowed Him to wipe away every tear; every past hurt, disappointment, heart ache or trouble? He stands ready to heal; ready to lavish His love over you.
- Will you today ask yourself, do I really belong to Him?
- Do I recognize His right to my mind, heart, and soul?
- Do I understand that His boundary lines fall in pleasant places for me and are for my protection?
- Do I have a sense of purpose and direction in my life because I am seeking His guidance?
- Do I find rest for my soul beside His quiet waters?
- Do I find excitement in this life because He is behind the steering wheel of my life?
- What changes do I need to make so I can receive God's amazing love into my life?
Question 1 of the Heidelberg Catechism is incredibly poignant. A great place to start receiving God’s love is to agree with the answer.
Q: What is your only comfort, in life and in death?
A: That I belong—body and soul, in life and in death—not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.
God is not stingy. He wants to lavish His love on YOU. Seek Him and YOU WILL FIND HIM and discover true love!
